Subluxations, or misalignments of joints in the body, can inhibit peak performance AND your health! Chiropractors correct them like dentists correct the plaque off of teeth!

Here are the “Top 10 Reasons Why a Every CrossFitter Needs a Chiropractor

10. Your knee and ankle shake while doing a “piston,” aka single leg squat (low back/knee/ankle subluxations)

9. You miss a WOD or 2 “every once in a while” due to an injury (subluxation anywhere in the body)

8. Your “ego gets in the way” and you do everything Rx’ed and trash your back (spine subluxation)

7. You can’t “get low enough” on your wall squats, front squats, and anykind of squat-squats  (low back/pelvis/hip subluxations)

6. The knee hurts after 1-2 mile of running–in your Vibram 5 fingers, of course! (low back/pelvis/hip/knee/ankle/foot subluxations)

5. Too tired or stressed out to WOD to your max most days (upper neck subluxations)

4. Your shoulder kicks your butt during overhead squats, pushups, ring dips, etc. (neck/shoulder subluxations)

3. You round your back while attempting deadlifts (low back/pelvis subluxations)

2. “I’m not very flexible” crosses your lips.

And, for #1…

1. You want to get Stronger, Better, Faster, Quicker!

5. The 1500 times my children have fallen just learning how to walk by the age of 2 are really no big deal…even though I would be miserable if I fell 1500 times within a 2 year time frame in my 40′s.

4. I like my head sitting on my shoulders or protruding from my chest instead of sitting directly on top of my neck.

3. Why correct my son’s/daughter’s forward head posture? It just makes it easier for them to see the phone to text their friends!

2. Why would I want my family thinking better with a clearly functioning nerve system? I prefer the temper tantrums, disagreements, and difficulties with focus and concentration.

1. I played soccer, gymnastics, and football as a kid and I’m fine. I just throw my back out 4 times a year, and my neck always hurts, and I’m always getting sick with everything my kids bring home.

Lights went out. Battery backups beeped. Fish tanks grinded to a halt.

The power went out at my house..

Four thoughts hit my head simultaneously as I sat at my dying computer: “What’s going on? What do I do? Should I call my husband? What would he do?”

I quickly discovered the rest of the house had no power; I went downstairs and found out it wasn’t a circuit breaker issue.

“It might not be just my house,” I thought.

The neighbors did not have power and were just as concerned and curious to the cause of this situation. Mass CONFUSION and CHAOS was happening in my neck of the woods!

I went back to my house to do my computer work the old fashioned way: paper and pen. My performance was lessened; I felt unsure as to what I should be doing or how I should be functioning.

A knock happens upon my door.

“There’s been a fire at St. Joseph’s hospital! The whole neighborhood has lost electricity!” cries the neighbor. “Who knows when it will be back on!”

Within the human body, there is a cause to a resulting effect within the body: chiropractors call the cause a “subluxation,” or misalignment of the spine causing less nerve communication, and the resulting effect being less
organ and/or body function
.

As in the example above, the fire at St. Joseph’s Hospital is the subluxation; the lack of electricity, mass confusion, and chaos at my house would be the effects. Would it make sense to keep flipping light switches or circuit breakers when the cause of the hospital fire needs to be corrected? No, it wouldn’t.

That’s what chiropractors do—we remove the cause of a person’s lessened health state so that the person can FUNCTION better and ultimately BE better. This creates not just a healthier person, but also a healthier community,
and ultimately a healthier planet.

Day 4: I had a pretty relaxing day. My husband and I went camping at Interstate State Park that night (yes, I know–on April 1??? we do weird stuff like that). So I planned accordingly with my fruits and veggies. I think the highlight of my night was seeing the look on my husband’s face when I cracked open a can of saurkraut–priceless!. The not so good part of my night was when I couldn’t sleep because I was cold and my bum was on the ground because my air mattress leaked. I thought I would pay the next day with a sore neck  and back.

Day 5: I was feeling wonky after the night tenting. I thought I would have a headache all weekend, especially since I was detoxing, but after a nap in the car on the way home, I actually felt ok. I made Steamed Articoke with a balsamic vineger-olive oil-cracked black pepper dip and Baked Kale Chips. Yum!

Day 6: I awoke energized this morning! I also turned into Betty Crocker later that day. I made Baked Kale Chips again (I couldn’t get enough of them that weekend!) and Roasted Beets and Greens.

Day 7: This was a big Test Day for me. I was pretty much down to only eating cruciferous veggies, raw greens, apples and pears and their juices. I’ve worried about this day prior to beginning the detox: “How was I going to make it through a whole day of work and teaching until 10 PM at Globe University that night??”

I’ll tell you how–the program I chose phased me into this phase and the supplement I took gave me the energy and addressed any cravings I had so that by the end of the night, I wasn’t tired–I was actually energized and didn’t have the usually headache I would have had by the end of the night. And this was with me waking up at 5:30 AM that day!

Day 8: I found I’m not really craving or needing to eat foods today. I feel like I could continue on the cruciferous veggie-raw greens-apple-and-pear diet I was on for the last few days for another few days. This is a nice feeling–I don’t feel beholden to coffee (trust me–I love my coffee!) or food in general. I’m now letting “food be my medicine.” It’s a really good feeling.

Day 9: I reincorporated legumes, nuts, and seeds back into my diet. AND I realized that today was my last detox day!

Tonight, I feel great sense of acheivement and accomplishment!

In the next blog post, I will share some FANTASTIC tips that will help you succeed in your detoxification program goals!

Feeling sluggish? Headachy? Neck painish? Tired all the time? Can’t get enough energy to grab that cup of Caribou?

We spring clean our houses (most of us hopefully???), but rarely do we spring clean our bodies. As we transition from winter to spring, we witness nature healing itself by growing and replenishing. We are reminded that are bodies are just like nature–healing, growing, and replenishing.

I’m a big fan of detoxification programs with appropriate supplementation–IF they are the correct program and products for YOU. I specialize in muscle testing to determine appropriate detoxification supplements. This technique shows a specificity to each person and his or her unique  health needs.

Today, I will begin sharing my journey and the results of a recent detox program I did in March. In my next article, I will share with you the remainder of the journey as well as tips that I have found to help me succeed along the way.

Day 1: Actually not feeling too bad–definitely less headaches this time around than previous detoxes I’ve done in the past.

Day 2: Same as yesterday except I developed a pretty good headache and neck pain later that night. Going to bed early and sleeping soundly helped that. My husband and I had brown rice pasta with a non-allergenic and non-toxic marinara sauce of which I added garbanzo beans to. It was a fabulous dish that I ate the next day to avoid any carb or pasta cravings I might encounter in the future days of the detox program.

Day 3: Same tired and slight headachy feeling. Dr. Lindsay adjusted me today and stated that my neck was moving pretty well–only had one subluxation. However, the toxins were releasing and that’s why I was not feeling 100%. This is proof of the “chemical causes of subluxation” (subluxation = spinal misalignments that cuase stress to our nerve system) that we may encounter from what we encounter/encountered in our environments.
